Camdenton Lady Lakers Fall To Kickapoo 85-65 in "Elite 8"

Natalie Basham had 20 second-half points and finished with 25 for the game but it simply wasn't enough during the Lady Lakers 85-65 loss to Kickapoo in the Missouri State Class 5 Quartefinals. The Kickapoo Chiefs looked as dominant as any team I've seen this year. Although I wouldn't crown them state champions just yet, I would put some money down on the Chiefs to win it all, if you're a betting man, that is.

Basham did her best to will her team to victory with her 25 points while Coley Rezabek finished with 17 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Abi Miller had 10 and scored a field goal in each quarter and added 3 steals. Shelby Kurtz had 9 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals. Kylie Meier ran into early foul trouble and was limited in minutes but still managed to score 5 points.

As a team, Camdenton finished with 16 turnovers while forcing 19. The Lady Lakers were a dismal 4 from 16 from beyond the arc and only 6 of 12 from the free-throw line. One big stat for the Lakers was allowing a much bigger Kickapoo team to pull down 14 offensive rebounds in the contest. Additionally, Camdenton seemed to be gassed and continually got beaten down the floor in the second half. It just wasn't the Lady Lakers night.

However, when you consider what expectations were coming into this season you have to be rather pleased with a District Championship and an Elite 8 appearance. This was just Camdenton's 3rd state quarterfinal appearance in school history and first since 1984. I know it hurts now, but all in all, it was one heck of a good season.
